Nota: Es el único disco de Pink Floyd que tiene participación 100 % de Syd Barrett, quien por este tiempo tenía el liderazgo absoluto de la banda. Nota: Sierra la primera etapa de Pink Floyd. Depués de este disco, se produciría la partida de Barrett (sólo compuso un tema) y el abandono del sonido psicodélico más puro. A partir de esta placa, Waters tomará el liderazgo de la banda para conducirlo por distintos experimentos y Gilmour se integra definitivamente con una guitarra más cercana al pop británico: melodica, pura, minimalista y de una extraordinaria sensibilidad. Destacan los increíbles "Set the controls for the heart of the sun" y "Saucerfull of secret".

Este álbum doble, se compone por un disco donde se presentan en vivo cuatro de los mejores temas de esta etapa y una segunda placa, en la cual a cada uno de los los cuatro músicos se les entregó la mitad de un lado para que pudieran probar su talento. Un ataque a los sentidos, todas la compisiciones son notables, destacando Grantchester Meadows. Ummagumma recibió el premio de la crítica francesa como mejor disco del año.

Nota: La suite que dió el nombre a este disco (El primer tema) es sencillamente increíble. Una de las obras mejor logradas del rock sinfónico y progresivo. Esta producción le otorgó a Pink Floyd un prestigio no sólo ante los melenudos fans que arrastraba desde mediados de los 60's, sino del público adulto, que quedó asombrado con el potencial creativo de la banda. Temas como el melancólico "If" y "Alan's psychodelic..." hacen de este álbum una pieza clave en la historia del experimental rock de los 70.
